Allan Lake

Especially Spicy Salsa

Nobody our age bothers with weddings.
We’ve been there, done that and split
the discoloured nest egg. That explains
why I call my partner’s sister my ‘sister-
out-law’ or just Outlaw for short.
And of course, I know I should not
be seen checking out Outlaw’s ass
but in a room full of salsa dancers
it is compelling viewing,
has a criminally insane mind
of its own, that saucy
perpetual motion thing.

Allan Lake, a stray from Allover, Canada, now writes poetry in Allover, Australia. Latest chapbook of poems, ‘My Photos of Sicily’, published by Ginninderra Press, 2020.
