The Afternoon
A girl on holiday returned to her hotel
after a day of wandering around looking
at people on the street and waiters and waitresses.
When she walked through the glass doors
there was a guy sitting in the foyer,
another guest. He asked her if she spoke
such and such a language
and where to find so and so street.
She spent the afternoon
on hands and knees in the man’s hotel room,
gasping, laughing,
or talking to him over her shoulder.
They did it three times.
The first two times only he came.
The third time, they came together.
